Covid strain JN.1 could trigger a global ‘heart failure pandemic’, ……fear Medical World.

Health experts are warning of a potential “heart failure pandemic” related to COVID-19, particularly due to the new strain known as JN.1. A study by Japanese scientists has revealed that the increase in COVID-19 cases, especially due to the new strain, could lead to potential heart issues.

The warning comes as several countries, including the US, UK, China, and India, have seen a spike in COVID-19 cases in recent weeks, largely due to the influx of the new strain JN.1. Experts are concerned that this will increase the chances of potential heart issues for those who contract the disease.

According to a new report from Japan’s top research institute Riken, the ACE2 receptors, which the coronavirus clings to within human cells, are ‘very common’ in the heart. This means that many people who affects the virus may suffer from ‘reduced cardiac function’.

The reason for this potential link is still unclear, but the report suggests that the COVID-19 pandemic may have significantly changed things. It warns that the number of those at risk of future heart failure due to ‘persistent infection of SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) is expected to exponentially increase’.

The report emphasizes the need to validate the possibility of persistent SARS-CoV-2 infection of the heart and its potential impact on cardiac function. A three-dimensional human cardiac tissue model is recommended to serve as an early warning system for global healthcare risk. This warning comes as Covid cases, including those of the fast-spreading JN.1 variant, are on the rise in several countries, including the US. Health officials are concerned about a potential increase in illness cases, particularly with the upcoming holiday season and crowded social events for New Year’s celebrations.
